The Hawaii Leadership Forum is dedicated to advancing leadership in and for Hawaii. In service to that goal we will be offering a speaker series of world-class experts in leadership development to the local community. The series will provide the opportunity to learn not only from the best, but also to leverage the great knowledge and experience that exists within our island communities as well. As we engage in these presentations and conversations we hope to understand and apply the best practices of effective leadership.
Our first speaker was leadership developer Gus Lee. Gus was the Chair of Character Development at West Point and has been a corporate COO, VP, government senior executive, deputy district attorney and deputy attorney general. Gus is the author of six books, including Courage: The Backbone of Leadership.
“Learn. Do. Be. First we learn. Then we practice. Only then we become. When we practice the behaviors of listening, we hear clearly. When we practice the behaviors of respect, we care truly. When we practice the behaviors of courageous leadership, we lead powerfully.”Excerpt from Courage
